Privacy Policy

Last updated 15 June 2026

Alcove (“Alcove”, “we”, “us”) is a story console for writing branching serialized fiction. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Alcove, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Alcove website and the authenticated console.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and authentication details through our authentication provider. We do not store your password.

Content you create. The cartridges, save files, chapters, characters, codex entries, notes, and settings you create are stored to provide the service. Your private content is never published or shared without an explicit action by you, and a public cartridge page shows only the world setup — never your chapters or notes.

Usage data. We collect limited, privacy-preserving product analytics (for example, that a chapter was generated or canon was locked) to understand how the product is used. These events contain counts and identifiers only — never the text of your writing.

Technical data. Like most services, our infrastructure processes standard technical information such as IP address and device/browser type for security, abuse prevention, and reliability.

How we use your information

We use your information to operate and improve Alcove: to provide the writing console and your saved work, to generate chapters and route suggestions at your direction, to maintain security and prevent abuse, to process payments where applicable, and to communicate with you about your account.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use the text of your writing to train third-party foundation models.

Cookies and analytics

Alcove uses only the cookies strictly necessary to keep you signed in. Our product analytics run in a cookieless mode and our performance measurement is cookieless, so we do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies and do not require a tracking-consent banner.

How we share information

We share data only with the service providers that run Alcove on our behalf — hosting and database, the AI model providers that power generation, our payments processor, and our transactional email provider — each under terms that limit their use of the data to providing their service. We may also disclose information where required by law.

Your rights and choices

You can export a machine-readable copy of your data, and you can permanently delete your account and all associated content, at any time, from Settings → Privacy & data. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or restrict the processing of your personal data; contact us to exercise them.

Data retention

We keep your content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your workspace and its content are erased; limited records may be retained where necessary to comply with legal, accounting, or security obligations.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your writing safe and access scoped to you.

Age

Alcove is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use it, and some mature content settings require confirming that you are an adult.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
